Buenos Aires International Book Fair 2026

The Buenos Aires International Book Fair 2026 will take place from April 23 to May 11 at the La Rural exhibition center, with a special program commemorating its 50-year history under the theme of 'memory and future.' The proposal combines a journey through the country's cultural and political past with new experiences and debates about the role of the book in the 21st century. One of the central cores will be dedicated to the memory of Argentine publishing, with an exhibition of books and authors censored during the last military dictatorship. This space seeks to recover prohibited works and reflect on the role of the book industry in contexts of repression, in dialogue with the present. In parallel, the Fair will offer a historical itinerary that reconstructs its different stages since its creation in 1975. Through archives, objects, and testimonies, visitors can trace the evolution of one of the most culturally significant events in the Spanish-speaking world. Among the highlighted proposals is '50 Fairs Drawn,' an installation that brings together live illustrations and graphic material that dialogues with the visual memory of the event. The programming will also include tributes to central figures of Argentine literature, with a special focus on Jorge Luis Borges on the 40th anniversary of his death. Immersive activities inspired by his work are planned, such as an interactive labyrinth and an international exhibition of editions in multiple languages. To these initiatives will be added the traditional cycles that are part of the Fair's DNA, such as the International Poetry Festival, the Reading Marathon, and the 'Indigenous Word' space, which in this edition will be integrated into the commemorative logic. On the international front, Peru will be the guest of honor country with the motto 'Paths that Unite us,' in a participation that seeks to strengthen cultural and literary ties in the region.
